The Roxy Theatre: Celebrating 50 Years
The Roxy Theatre has been a pillar of the Sunset Strip music scene since opening its doors in 1973. It’s been the stage for history-making shows, from the legendary opening-night performance by Neil Young to the recording of Bob Marley’s Live at the Roxy in 1976. It’s been a hangout for celebs like John Lennon and Jack Nicholson. And it’s been an incubator for some of the most groundbreaking theater and comedy of the last 50 years, from the original U.S. run of The Rocky Horror Show to the first taped performance of The Pee-wee Herman Show for HBO in 1981.
Fifty years later, the Roxy still rocks! Starting this September, the club celebrates 50 years with a packed schedule of performances, as well as events happening around L.A. Learn about the Roxy’s origins, browse upcoming events, and stay tuned for more happenings throughout 2023.
